MIYAZATO Eiichi et le JUNDOKAN
Miyazato Eiichi est né en 1922, il débute le karaté avec son père en 1935 puis celui-ci le confie à Miyagi Chojun au début de l’année 1938 à l’age de 15 ans. En parallèle, en 1937, il débute l’étude du judo dont il deviendra 7ème dan et potentiellement champion d’Okinawa.
Miyazato suivra l’enseignement de Miyagi jusqu’à la mort de celui-ci en 1953. Souvent il assistait son maître pour l’enseignement, dans le dojo qui se trouvait être le jardin de la maison Miyagi et enseignait sur son instruction dans les lycées. Il succéda à Miyagi comme instructeur à l’académie de police d’Okinawa où il enseignait également le judo.
A la mort de Miyagi, Miyazato hérita de tout le matériel de musculation spécifique (hojo undo), de celui-ci, tandis que Yagi héritait du karate gi et de la ceinture du maître.
A la demande des principaux élèves et de la famille de Miyagi, Miyazato Eiichi continua à enseigner dans le dojo de Miyagi. En 1954, il ouvre son propre dojo le Jundokan qui sera reconstruit et agrandi en 1957. Il est connu pour sa volonté de poursuivre la voie traditionnelle qu lui a enseigné son maître Miyagi Chojun. Autour de lui et avec lui continuent de s’entraîner de nombreux élèves de Miyagi plus jeunes que lui dont Hia Koshin qui le secondera plus tard au Jundokan et Miyagi Anichi (aucun lien de parenté avec Miyagi Chojun) qui prendra sous sa coupe un futur grand maître du goju ryu, Higaonna Morio qui débutera au Jundokan. C’est avec le grade de 10ème dan Hanshi qu’il s’est éteint en 1999. Il était alors président de la All-Okinawa Karatedo Fédération, de la Okinawa Goju ryu Karatedo Association (Okinawa Goju ryu Karate do Kyokai) et de la World Jundokan Association. Dans la lignée des élèves de Miyazato Sensei se trouvent de nombreux et excellents experts de goju ryu. L’actuel dirigeant de l’école Jundokan est « Kancho » Miyazato Yoshihiro qui a su s’entourer des seniors du dojo pour pérenniser l’enseignement du fondateur Miyagi Chôjun tel que Miyazato sensei le transmettait.
En France le Shibusho (représentant officiel) de l’école Goju ryu Jundokan est Senseï René Ramanitrandrasana qui a été l’élève de Miyazato Senseï.
MIYAZATO Eiichi and the JUNDOKAN
Ei’ichi Miyazato (1922-1999) was recognized as the highest authority on Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do in the world after the death of of his teacher. He served as the senior most technical advisor for the Japan Karate Federation Goju-Kai, the governing body for all Okinawan and Japanese Goju-Ryu Karate. He was on the technical examination committee. Presently the JKF is amending the Kata for all Goju-Ryu schools to follow that as taught within the Jundokan.
Additionally, he was the chairman and technical director for the World Jundokan Association, All Okinawa Karate-Do Federation. Additionally, he held a 7th Dan in Judo through the Kodokan and was the president of the Okinawa Judo Federation until his passing.
Miyazato Sensei began his training with Master Miyagi at the age of 13. Miyazato Sensei’s father had himself studied with Kanryo Higaonna and therefore Miyagi accepted the young Miyazato as a student. Except for a brief time during WWII, Miyazato Sensei studied continuously with Master Miyagi. He was but only of a handful of the original students that continued their training with Master Miyagi after the war.
The same year that Master Miyagi passed away, a group of Miyagi’s senior students that included Nakaima, Madanbashi, Meitoki Yagi, Iha Koshin and Ei’ichi Miyazato came together to elect a successor for Goju-Ryu. The consensus of the group was that Miyazato was the most qualified to succeed Chojun Miyagi due to his qualifications and because he had spent the most continuous training time with Miyagi in the dojo and in the police department. Kei Miyagi, the second oldest son of Master Miyagi was called to testify. He testified that Master Miyagi always said thst Miyazato was the only one he could depend on for everything in the dojo. Miyazato accepted the responsibility and has dedicated his entire life to preserving and spreading Okinawan Goju-Ryu throughour the world as taught by his teacher.
In 1957, he opened the Jundokan, the first free standing building exclusively designed to teach Okinawan Goju-Ryu. Jundokan, which means, « Center for the study in the father’s footsteps », reflects Miyazato Sensei’s devotion for his teacher. The Jundokan has students the world over and is responsible for training some of the world’s greatest Goju-Ryu practitioners..
In France, Shibusho of Okinawa Goju ryu Jundokan is René Ramanitrandrasana Senseï who was a student of Miyazato Senseï.
